A Wedding in the Woods at Swallow Falls State Park

Jacqie McKenzie

Two Frostburg State alum Rob and Ruth tied the knot during a wedding in the woods at Swallow Falls State Park. Deep Creek Lake is known for its outdoor scenery and Swallow Falls is a local and tourist favorite! A short walk back the path leads to falls of differing sizes and speeds. You can stand at the top, bottom, and middle of Muddy Creek Falls with the sun shining down on your shoulders as the water pours over the rock’s edge and the mist rises into the air.

Maria from Made-Up Photography captured this summer wedding and expresses her joy in capturing the nuptials between these two lovebirds.

“Rob and Ruth became my friends through what is now the Center for Literary Arts at Frostburg State University. Rob and Ruth were at a Center-sponsored event and complimented me on my “Firefly-esque” knee-high combat boots, and we instantly hit it off. At Rob’s insistence, I became a member of the 3am Society, FSU’s student writer’s club and we continued our friendship.

A little less than a year into this friendship, I encouraged Rob to ask Ruth out on a date. He was so nervous that he was texting me for advice beforehand. He eventually found his confidence, they went out, and now Rob and Ruth are inseparable.

Three years later, I received a random Facebook message from Ruth, asking if I’d be free to shoot their wedding – to which I said yes, of course. The LaCourse family’s plastic lobster is the special guest at all family weddings and made its appearance here as well!

Throughout the day, we cracked jokes, chugged water, and attempted to survive the heat any way we could. We had a total blast dancing to the Time Warp, eating amazing food, playing with the bubble machine, and mingling with family and friends. It was amazing to see so many people come from all over, do their part to help, and enjoy the festivities.”

The combination of the sweet, feminine details and charm and elegance of Chanteclaire Farm is what caught my eye from this barn wedding in Garrett County. Captured by Britani Edwards Photography, Sarah and John's wedding was full of spring cheer and romantic scenes.
