A Cozy Deep Creek Engagement

ENGAGEMENT
by
Jacqie McKenzie

Sometimes the best engagement sessions are when couples are more relaxed and comfortable and in their own environment. Jessica Fike Photography wanted to create images that were more personal to Natalie and Derek and we love how they turned out! Natalie and Derek look so cozy, relaxed and in love.

From Jessica Fike Photography:
Natalie and Derek’s engagement session was all about them; Who they are together as a couple and what they enjoy doing together as a couple. I asked them about their hobbies and what they find themselves doing together for fun. When cooking and hanging at home together were mentioned, I knew we could do something a little more unique and personal to them for the session. A friend of theirs graciously offered her lake home at Deep Creek Lake for the “at-home” engagement session we were trying to create.

It wasn’t Natalie and Derek’s home, but we made it feel like home with coffee, pancakes, a messy bun, and dancing in the kitchen. We also ventured down to the lake for some pictures with the water to help capture the scenery of the area. It may have been 8am and it may have been a rainy morning, but Natalie and Derek’s smiles, laughs and overall joy to be in their “comfort zone” made everything shine. Pictures at Deep Creek Lake were the perfect nod to their nuptials as well. They wed just a couple of months later in the Deep Creek area where 200 of their friends and family joined them for a celebration in the mountains of Maryland.

From Natalie:
Since I was little, when I was dreaming of my wedding, I always imagined it at Deep Creek. I had visited the area before and was always amazed by the tall trees, clear lake, and an overwhelming feeling of peace. Luckily, when I took my now husband to Deep Creek for the first time, he was equally enthralled.

When we got engaged shortly after that trip, it seemed fitting that we consider Deep Creek as our wedding location. We both lead fairly hectic careers in our day to day life and we wanted our wedding day to be low stress and to reflect the things we love most. We are happiest when we are relaxing by the water with a glass of wine in hand or exploring the outdoors.

That being said, it seemed fitting to do “at home” engagement pictures at Deep Creek with hopes that Jessica would be able to capture us in our sincere happiest moments. Both awkward in front of a camera, we hoped that opting out of the traditional staged photos would make the experience more enjoyable for us.

(Just wait until you see her red dress!) Friend and The Deep Creek Wedding lead, Shannon Gray, captured this session on a warm summer evening in three picturesque locations. The combination of Swallow Falls State Park, a lakeside dock and on top of Wisp mountain created a well-rounded session and Deep Creek experience for this outdoor-loving couple. The pictures with sunshine glow and of course the red dress are my favorite.    From Shannon ...
